San Bernardino, California

The City of San Bernardino developed this major downtown commercial project with various State of California departments as the prime tenants.

The 13-story signature building is intended for CalTrans district offices, and includes some retail components at the base. Another 6-story office building is designed to consolidate various other state offices and also includes some retail spaces. Tthe project   also includes a six level parking facility for about 1,600 cars, transportation facilities and an auditorium for the common use of the offices in both buildings.

The office buildings are framed in structural steel to provide column free space for the offices and minimize loads on the driven pile foundations. The earthquake and wind loads are resisted by a combination of special moment frames and eccentrically braced frames. The parking facility is a cast-in-place post-tensioned reinforced concrete structure utilizing long span beams and one-way slabs with shear walls for resistance to earthquake loadings.
