Park Lake Resort - Phase One

Seoul, South Korea

Park Lake Resort - Phase One, located near the Yeong Rang Lake, consists of two separate components - a 200-room condominium hotel plus support facilities, and a 200-room hotel and conference center.

To cope with the hilly terrain and to blend with the environment, the Condo Hotel is broken down into four identical modules banking against the hill slopes. The modules are linked together by stair cores with a grand tower at the center which leads to the hotel lobby, restaurants, lounges, health clubs, pools, bowling alleys, tennis courts and the parking structure.  The majority of the public space is situated around an octagonal rotunda rising 50 feet above the top of the hill and the rest of the structure.

Several structural systems were proposed for the Condo Hotel.   Ultimately, a modified tunnel form system was adopted to simplify and economize the hotel construction. The architecture of the support facilities respects the local culture and consists of pagodas, oriental pavilions, and traditional canopies. Construction of these structures consists of structural steel mixed with reinforced concrete.
