Nevin Avenue Elementary School

Los Angeles, California

The uniquely sculptured building form of the classroom and parking facility at the Nevin Avenue Elementary School was featured in the April 1993 issue of Architecture magazine.  The two story classroom building is a double-loaded classroom arrangement with a central axis skylight.  The much-needed additional parking is located underground with access ramps arranged to avoid pedestrian traffic.

The superstructure is framed with wood joists, load-bearing wood stud framed walls and miscellaneous steelwork.  The plaza structure utilizes a thick reinforced concrete flat slab supported on concrete walls.  The foundation system consists of drilled cast-in-place piles.
