The Empire Towers project, with a total floor area of 330,000 square
meters (3.6 million square feet), is one of the largest office developments in Thailand.
The project includes two towers connected at the second floor, and situated above
six levels of subterranean parking. The taller 62 story tower is designated for
office usage, while the low-block 12 story building will be the headquarters for a local
Thai bank.
The primary structural system consists of reinforced concrete core
walls coupled with outrigger trusses and exterior structural steel columns.
The "up-down" construction technique, facilitated by a
perimeter secant wall and high capacity bored piles, was utilized to minimize the
construction schedule and excavation bracings.
