Debec Pohang

The Debec Shopping P'ohang Project is a large-scale all-purpose one-stop Department Store consisting of high fashion stores, specialty stores, a supermarket, international restaurants, and a roof garden for patrons and employees. The current building program includes ten levels of above grade and one level of below grade shopping space, four levels of below grade parking and one to one and a half levels of below grade mechanical space. The total gross area of construction is approximately 65,000 square meters.

The superstructure is framed with structural steel beams and columns supporting a metal deck slab. The lateral load resisting system consists of reinforced concrete shearwalls. The below-grade structure utilizes reinforced concrete framing and a diaphragm wall.   The project utilizes the "up-down" construction technique where the basement columns (king posts) are placed in the piles from grade to allow the upper structure to be constructed simultaneously with the basement levels.
